Health (pregnancy)

NHS Maternity care is provided by midwives, doctors and consultants, and is tailored to yours and your baby’s needs during pregnancy.

You have the option to choose where you receive care, such as at home, a birth centre or an obstetric unit.

It’s your choice whether to accept or decline tests, vaccines, treatments, or appointments. Private care outside the NHS is also an option.

Your first appointment is a ‘booking’ appointment where all your details and medical history are noted, plus anything that could affect your pregnancy or your baby.
