Chatterboxes Week 2 Friday

Age 2–3

Share the story again and ask your child some questions such as:

  • Where are the family going?
  • Who is riding on Daddy’s back?
  • What sound does the long, wavy grass make?
  • How will the family cross the river?

Age 3–4

Visit your local park or woods and take a bag or bucket with you to collect things in then discuss what you’ve collected when you get home.

As you walk, play “I Spy”. Model the sounds that you can hear at the beginning of words, for example; “I spy with my little eye, something beginning with “ssssss” – it’s a stone!” or you can ask your child to find things that are different shapes or colours.

Age 4–5

Share the story again and ask your child some questions such as:

  • When do the family take their shoes and socks off?
  • Who is the smallest person in the family? Who is the tallest?
  • Why do they trip in the forest?
  • What happens after they’ve been through the forest?
